Scientific Excellence Honored: Dr. Bernhard Küster Receives Prestigious Karger Medal

We are proud to share that Prof. Dr. Bernhard Küster, a distinguished member of our Board of Directors at the Center for Infection Prevention (ZIP) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), has been awarded the 2025 Karger Medal in Bioanalytical Chemistry – an honor that celebrates outstanding contributions to the life sciences and biomedical research. The award ceremony took place earlier this year at the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis in Boston, one of the world’s leading research centers in analytical chemistry and proteomics.
Prof. Küster was recognized for pioneering proteome-wide technologies that have transformed our ability to study drug mechanisms of action and for advancing bioanalytical methods that impact drug discovery and pharmacology.
A Leader in Translational Science
Bernhard Küster is Professor of Proteomics and Bioanalytics at the TUM and Director of the Bavarian Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Center. He is also the founder of biotech companies OmicScouts and MSAID, driving innovation in life sciences. His research has been at the forefront of understanding protein function and interactions in complex biological systems. His contributions have opened new doors in drug discovery and systems pharmacology and exemplifies the kind of cross-disciplinary, translational, high-impact science that the Center for Infection Prevention (ZIP) aims to advance.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Küster on this well-deserved recognition.
About Chair of Proteomics and Bioanalytics at TUM
Prof. Küster research at TUM combines cell biology, chemistry, biochemistry, mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics to develop innovative methods for quantitative proteomics, particularly for high-throughput applications and the analysis of post-translational modifications. He explores drug-target interactions, mechanisms of drug action and resistance, and leverage phosphoproteomic data for biomarker discovery, while providing open-access analytics through our ProteomicsDB platform. Read more about Prof. Küsters research and group on his official TUM website Proteomics and Bioanalytics.
